Diane Pereira-Reeves

October 8, 1953 ~ January 4, 2017 (age 63) 63 Years Old


Diane Pereira Reeves was born on October 8, 1953 in Providence, Rhode Island. She was the oldest child of Pauline (Monteiro) Pereira Jones and the late Andrew Pereira. She was the wife of the late Leonard Reeves.

In 1971, after receiving a high school diploma from Central High in Providence, Diane attended the University of Rhode Island. When she graduated in 1975, she was the first African American to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. Shortly after, she relocated to Maryland. For the next seven years, she was employed with Group Health Association in the Microbiology Department as a medical technologist. She returned to college to pursue an advanced certification degree at Howard University and worked at DC General Clinic as a physician assistant. Diane retired in 2004 from Fort Belvoir Army Base in Virginia where she worked as a physician assistant. Later, she worked as a substitute teacher for the Prince George’s and Montgomery County School Districts for six years.

Diane gave her life to Christ at the age of 37 and attended Integrity Church International in Landover, Maryland under the leadership of Apostle Dr. Emma Jean Thompson. She was a member of the choir and a willing worker helping with many church events. For 26 years Diane was faithful, loyal and loved her church. 

Diane was predeceased by her youngest sister Msiba Jones-Davis but leaves in the loving hands of God, her mother, Pauline Pereira Jones, of Providence, Rhode Island, three brothers, Victor Pereira of Central Falls, Rhode Island (Sharon) Glenn Heights, Texas, Bernard Pereira (Selma) of Arlington, Texas and Andrew Pereira (Lisa) of Cranston, Rhode Island; seven sisters, Linda Wilson and Carol Pereira of Providence, Rhode Island, Valarie Pereira of East Hartford, Connecticut, Shurla White and Lisa Jones of Warwick, Rhode Island, Pamela Robinson-Jones and Maria Price Jones of Providence, Rhode Island. She also leaves god-daughters Anjuli Chestnut and Tiondra Diane Martinez and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

Diane left for her heavenly abode from Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.
