Welcome to the memorial page for

Sonia Devonne (Yethman) Olufowobi

June 29, 1956 ~ September 2, 2016 (age 60) 60 Years Old

Sonia Devonne Olufowobi was born in Falmouth, Trelawney, Jamaica, West Indies, the second daughter of Delcie Yethman and Simeon Reid. She attended primary and high schools in Jamaica. In 1991, Sonia moved to Providence, RI where she met and married Heskay Olufowobi Sr. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant for 30 years, providing specialized and personal care, both in-home and at companies. She loved her job and being of assistance to people.

Sonia was a true ‘people-person,’ loved and appreciated by all. In addition to her job, she also enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family and friends. In fact, Sonia was known for making a good pot of stew peas and other foods of her native culture. Friends and family were frequently at Sonia’s sharing a good meal and a good time. Her smile was infectious but her good deeds to all were memorable. She will be extremely missed but the memories of “Miss Sonia” will live in our hearts forever. Her voice was that of an angel and her spirit was uplifting.

Sonia was a fighter to the very end against a very aggressive illness. During the most difficult times she was always thinking of those around her. Sonia was loved by family, friends and co-workers, alike, all over the world. She will be missed.

Sonia peacefully departed her earthly being on Friday, September 2nd at 1:30 in the morning with family by her side. Her husband Heskay Olufowobi Sr. preceded her in death. She is survived by: her mother, Delcie Yethman; daughter, Davia Moore and her husband, Larry; daughter, Oluseyi; son, Heskay Jr.; sisters, Norma Rogers, Patricia Yethman, Sharon French, Devonne Spain; and brother, Verrol Yethman.
