James Bristol Nathaniel Bing Sr., 52, an accountant, of West Avenue, Pawtucket, died Sunday, February 22nd, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Athlea Gatdula Bing.
Born in Greenville, Sinoe County, Liberia, West Africa, the son of the late J. Domenic Bing Sr. and Williametta (Diggs) Bing. He attended the United Methodist Elementary & Junior High School in Greenville under the principalship of Rev. Mark Richards.
Upon graduation he migrated to Monrovia where he enrolled and graduated from Monrovia College and Industrial Training School.
He joined the Ministry of Public Works in 1974 as a cadet. Upon graduation Jimmy, as he was affectionately called, joined the Finance Division of that ministry where he worked faithfully until the Liberian civil crisies in 1990.
As a result of the civil crises, Jimmy sought refuge in Freetown, Sierra Leone and later migrated to the United States in 1997 settling in Providence and later in Pawtucket. He was employed by the Roger Williams Medical Center. Due to challenging health problems, he had to cease gainful employment.
James had a passion for music and photography. Ironically, he took delight in taking pictures of others, but hardly can you find a decent picture of him. I you did manage to find one, it would be a group picture. Another thing worth mentioning is he had a very healthy appetite. If you ever saw him eat, you would wonder where all the food goes considering his size. he could surely hold his own. All things said, he was a family man. He always had a warm smile and a joke. He will truly be missed.
Besides his wife, he is survived by brother, David Eddie Jones (Evelyn) of Newark, NJ, and sisters, Emily Way of Warwick and Nancy Askie of Liberia, nephew, Archibald Thompson, nieces, Williametta Foreman, Love Jones, Madia Jones, Edlyn Jones, Mae-Emma Jones and Edvina Jones, grand niece, Aimon Foreman, uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of relatives and friends. He was the father of the late James Bing Jr. and brother of the late Bill Bing and Buster Bing.
