George Henry Briggs Sr., 84, of Goddard Street, Providence, died Friday, February 5th, at Charlesgate Nursing Center. He was the husband of Melahi Wynona (Johnson) Briggs.
Born in Amite, LA, he was the son of the late Marie Graham.
George served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He was a veteran of World War II, The Korean War and The Vietnam War. He then worked as a U.S. Postal Service worker for another 20 years.
Besides his wife, his is survived by sons, George Briggs Jr., Joshua Briggs, Joseph Briggs, Israel Briggs, Samuel Briggs, Jonathan Briggs, Simeon Briggs and Jacob Briggs, all of Providence, daughters, Tuwanda Harris, Dianthia Costa, Ruth Briggs, Rachel Briggs, Rebecca Briggs and Melahi Briggs, all of Providence, and Anntoinette Singleton of Woonsocket, foster children, Gary Adams and Renee Adams, both of Providence, 38 grandchildren and 11 great, grandchildren.
Funeral 10am Wednesday, February 10th, in Bright Funeral Home, 290 Public Street, Providence; Calling Hours 7-9pm Tuesday. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
