Irving Burney Sr., 78, of Ashmont Street, Providence, died Saturday, February 21st, at Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was the husband of Erma (Simmons) Burney for 57 years.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late William Burney and Evelyn (Harvey) Burney.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart. After his military service, he became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was a member of the Huntington View Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for the last 18 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughter, Inez Burrows of East Providence, 14 grandchildren, 14 great, grandchildren and 10 great, great, grandchildren. He was the father of the late Albert Burney and Irving Burney Jr.
Calling Hours 7-9pm Wednesday, February 25th , in Bright Funeral Home, 290 Public Street, Providence. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. There will be a Memorial Talk Saturday, February 28th, at 1pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 250 Wadsworth Street, Providence.
