Bishop Roosevelt Campbell, of 224 Ocean Street, Providence, died Sunday, June 15th, at home. He was the husband of Lydia H. (Jordan) Campbell.
Born in Knoxville, TN, a son of the late Zollie B. Campbell Sr. and Mattie L. (Howard) Campbell-Hanson. He was a resident of the city for 45 years. Bishop Campbell was pastor and musician of Temple of Prayer & Faith of the House of God. He voluntereed as a chaplain at the RI Training School for 10 years, as a driver for Voter Registration and at the Urban League of RI Shelter. He also served as the Director at the Providence Recreation Center on Dudley Street, and drove for 1st Student and D.A.R.E. Additionally, he was formerly a member of the RI Ministerial Alliance
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters, Paula D. Campbell-Hayes of Hyde Park, MA, and Rosalind A. Campbell-Thompson, Lydia Angel Cooper, & Melody A. Forrest, all of Providence, brother, Alexander Campbell of Atlanta, GA, sisters, Dollie A. Siler of Maryville, TN, Harriet Franklin of Bristol, Carolyn Hardy of Warwick and Apostle Mary Thomas of Portsmouth, and 9 grandchildren.
Homegoing Service 10am Monday, June 23rd, at Holy Cross Church of God In Christ United, 1014 Broad Street, Providence; Calling Hours 6-9pm Sunday at Holy Cross. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, Johnston, RI.
