Howlett E. "Howly" Chandler
May 19, 1924 - January 19, 2009

Howlett E. "Howly" Chandler, 84, of Summit Avenue, Providence, passed away on Monday, January 19th, at Miriam Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Betts) Chandler.

Born in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of the late John Davis Chandler and Eleanor (Graves) Chandler. He graduated from Rindge Tech High School in 1943 and Suffolk University in 1949.

He was an Army veteran of World War II who served in the South Pacific.

He was employed for 37 years as a revenue officer for the Internal Revenue Service. For many years he was a RI Track & Field official and coordinator of the VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance).

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Rich Turner, and her husband, Calvin Turner III. He was the brother of Madeline "Petey" Royster of Cambridge, MA and Richard Chandler of Belmont, MA and the late Lucille Prescod, Helen Stephens, Willard Chandler, John Chandler, Carl Chandler, Byron Chandler and Kenneth Chandler, also survived by grandchildren, Lauren Rich, Dina Rich and Sean Turner, 9 great, grandchildren and 1 great, great, granddaughter and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Bright Funeral Home, 290 Public Street, Providence on Saturday, January 24th, at 11am.
