Herbert E. Kaplan, 78, of Grotto Avenue, Providence died Saturday, June 14th, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband and best friend of Christine Townsend.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph & Lillian (Alberts) Kaplan.

Father of the late Peter Kaplan, he leaves two daughters, Lisa Kantor of Lenox, Massachusetts and Joy Kaplan of Newton, Massachusetts, and five grandchildren, Nicole, Rachel & Shayna Kantor, and Ben & Zoe Brooker Kaplan. Stepfather of the late James Arcaro, he leaves four stepchildren, Judge Arcaro of Wickford, Meredith Arcaro of Wakefield, John Arcaro of Pawtucket and Elizabeth Ernst of Los Angeles, California, and three step-granddaughters, Michaela, Alicia & Simone Ernst.

The funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the New England Amateur Skating Foundation, Box 6881, Providence, RI 02940.
