Kela Louise Moore, 38, of Providence, passed away Tuesday, May 4th.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William Billy Moore and Bennie Ree (Harmon) Moore. Kela attended Providence Public Schools and graduated from Classical High School. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree from University of Hartford and a Master's of Education from Providence College. She received a second Master's from URI.
She worked in Connecticut in the public school system for 2 years before returning back to teach in Providence where she spent her last 14 years. She taught special education at Hope High School and Textron Chamber of Commerce. She was a Behavior Coach for the district before becoming Assistant Principal at Mt. Pleasant High School. She was also the Steppers team advisor at the school. Kela has touched many lives and always tried to make a difference in the lives of the youth.
She was a past member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women RI Chapter, active member of the Wanskuck Boys & Girls Club and was given the 2002 Youth of the Year award. She coached basketball in the Dickey Simpkins fundamentals basketball camp.
She is survived by daughter, Kamryn Cydney Potter, sisters, Lisa Mills of Woonsocket, Nadine Moore, brother in law Russell Watts III, Candi Moore of Providence, brother Richard Moore of Cranston , aunt Lula Mae Spearman of Pawtucket , god-son, Richard Read , 13 nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
Calling Hours 5-8pm Tuesday May 11th in Bright Funeral Home, 290 Public Street, Providence. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday May 12th at 3pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 475 Cranston Street, Providence. In lieu of flower make donations to Wanskusk Boys & Girls Club, Providence.
