Freeman Van Pelt, 83, a retired government attorney, of 100 Broad Street, Providence, died Wednesday, September 22 nd , at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.

Born in Liberia, West Africa, he was he son of the late Jimmy and Mary Van Pelt.

Freeman is survived by sons, Wellington L. Van Pelt of Atlanta, and Dewait Van Pelt and Oscar Robertson, both of Liberia, daughters, Effie Van Pelt-Davies of Philadelphia, PA, Evangeline Van Pelt-Wynter of Bristol, CT, Peggie Van Pelt of Buffalo, NY and Esther Baker of Trenton, NJ, brother, Humphrey Van Pelt of Liberia, 7 grandchildren and 4 great, grandchildren. He was the father of the late Byrld Van Pelt and Fritz Van Pelt and the brother of the late Ellen Van Pelt-Padmore and Sarah Van Pelt.

A Memorial Service will be held; place, date and time yet to be announced.
