Helen (Brown) Simmons, 76, of 410 Cahir Street, Providence, died Friday, August 22nd, at Rhode Island Hospital.
Born in Crystal, WV, a daughter of the late Thomas E. Brown Sr. and Bertha (Shepardson) Brown. She had been a resident of the city for 38 years.
She was a retired inspector of Gorham silver products, a division of Textron. She also served as head of finance department for Providence Christian Academy.
"Mother" Simmons was also a member of Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, where she was head of the missionary department.
Mother Simmons is survived by son, Tavon Simmons of Providence, brother, Curtis Brown of Buffalo, NY, and sisters, Deborah Ingram and Maxine Brown, both of New York, NY, and Synetha Gray of Ohio. She was the sister of the late Thomas E. Brown Jr., Doris Gray, Geneva M. Rolle and Jeannette Hawkins.
Funeral 10am Tuesday, August 26th, at Pentecostal COGIC, 25 Mystic Street, Providence; viewing begins at 9am. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery.
