Albert Smith Jr., 54, a retired merchant marine, of Hartford Avenue, Providence, died Saturday, May 24th at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Linda (Gomes) Smith.

Born in Nassau, Bahamas, a son of the late Albert Smith Sr. and Christina (Strachan) Smith of Providence. He had been a resident of the city for 53 years.

Albert was employed as a merchant marine until retirement, where he served as an oil rig worker. He also worked for Topside Restaurant for 5 years.

Besides his spouse and mother, Albert is survived by son, Shayne M. Smith, daughter, Leigha Smith, brothers, Raymond Smith, Charles Smith, Nelson Smith and Joseph Smith, sisters, Carolyn Smith and Lena Smith, all of Providence, and 7 grandchildren.

Funeral 1pm Friday, May 30th, in Bright Funeral Home, 290 Public Street, Providence. Cremation will follow.
