Bishop Laurel Eugene Thomas, 75, of Villa Avenue , Cranston, died Wednesday, April 21st, at home. He was the husband of Lois (Aiello) Thomas. Born in Broadway, NC, he was the son of the late Rev. John L. Thomas and Rose B. (Daniels) Thomas. He was a resident of Rhode Island for 49 years. Bishop Thomas was the pastor of True Light Church of God in Christ Jesus. He was the former pastor for Junior Naval Cadets. He was the first Black kidney profusionist at Miriam Hospital. "Bishop" as he was affectionately called, attended Duke University and North Carolina AT&T, and graduated from University Biblical Studies in OK. Besides his wife, he was survived by sons, Austin Thomas of Cranston and Christopher Thomas of Providence, brother, Terry W. Thomas of Durham, NC, sister, Jean G. Gaines of Durham, NC, and granddaughters, Aliyah Thomas and Autumn Thomas, both of Cranston . A Memorial Service will be held 12 Noon Wednesday at The Chapel in Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence.
