Willie "Buckwheat" Wilson, 74, of Ocean Street, Providence, died Saturday, January 30th, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was the companion of Ernestine Ross of Cranston.
Born in Wetumpka, AL, he was the son of the late Nathan Wilson Sr. and Lizzie R. (Thomas) Wilson. He was a resident of the city for 62 years.
Buckwheat was am U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Besides his companion, he is survived by sons, Gregory Wilson and Gary Ross, both of Providence, and Allen Wray of Cranston, daughters, Florence Wilson, Stacey Wilson, Deana Wilson, Talinda Black, Juliet Wray, Sherry Wray, Charline Wray and Kimberly Blossom, all of Providence, Darlena Wilson-Diarra and Darlene White, both of Pawtucket, and Mary Lakeshia Barr of Woonsocket, brother, Nathan Wilson Jr. of Providence, sisters, Willie Carol of Providence and Lizzie Young of Cranston, 34 grandchildren and 24 great, gradnchildren. He was the brother of the late Odessa Carter.
Funeral 11am Thursday, February 4th, in Bright Funeral Home, 290 Public Street, Providence; viewing begins at 10am. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
