Willie "Champ" Wilson
August 10, 1934 - October 14, 2008

Willie "Champ" Wilson, 74, of Briggs Street, Providence, died on Tuesday, October 14th, at home. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Brown) Wilson.

Born in Philadelphia, MS, he was the son of the late Martin Taylor and Alice Bourage.

Mr. Wilson was a RIPTA bus driver, retiring after 30 years. He was known by many as "Champ" as a result of a prominent professional heavyweight boxing career.

He was truly a champ to his wife (who also called him Champ) and to his family.

He leaves four daughters, Linda Wilson, Christine Freeman, and Sheila Williams, all of Providence, and Veronica Garnett of North Providence; a son-in-law, Carl Williams of Providence; 7 grandchildren and 4 great, grandchildren.

His funeral will be held Saturday, October 18th, at 12 Noon at the Cathedral of Life, 1860 Westminster Street, Providence, Preceded by Calling Hours from 10-12 Noon at the church. Burial will be in North Burial Ground.
