On November 30, 2018, God opened the portals of heaven and called his loving daughter home to her eternal rest. Mama was born to Dr. Francis Morais and Sarah Scott (Hne) on August 13, 1934 in Plebo, Maryland County. She began her education at Cape Palmas High School where she completed her high school education. Upon completing high school, she attended and graduated as a nurse from Tubman National Institute of Medical Arts (TNIMA) and began her nursing career at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital where she remained a nurse until her retirement in 1984.
Even though Mama retired from active work in 1984, she continued to care for many of her former patients and continued to do what she loved “showing love and compassion” to all around her. She had a steady stream of people always looking to her for help and advice to the point that she was treating people and delivering babies in her home. She was a pillar in her community at 72nd where many called her “Ma Charlotte and Mama.” There was not a day where the “pot” did not include an extra meal for anyone who happened to pass by and was hungry. She was a true humanitarian in every aspect of the word and gave her last to make sure others were taken care of.
Mama married the late Rene Lama on January 6, 1963 in Monrovia, Liberia. A God-fearing woman who attended the Presbyterian Church until 1975, she later converted to Catholicism. After the civil war in Liberia she joined the Pentecostal and was a deaconess in the church, serving and ministering.
Mama leaves to mourn her loss, 10 children: Francis Yancy (Cecelia), Samuel Natt II (Connie), Mulah Moriah, (Keturah) Dr. Florine Dosumu Davis, Rose Lama Jacques (Marcaisse), Gabriel Lama (Ami), Louise Lama Richardson (Martin), Daniel Lama (Queenly), Jerome Lama (Janet) and Lois Lama Wolobah (Amos); 47 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and host of loving relatives Sisters: Sarah Morais Freeman, Sophia Morais, Gregory Scott, Sarah Hne, Alice Hne and Moriah Hne) She was predeceased by her parents Dr. Francis Morais and Sarah Scott Hne, her sisters and brothers Susannah, Jane, Mary, Lee, Major, Francis.
May the gentle soul of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunty, cousin, friend, and the soul of all God’s faithful rest in eternal peace. We love you mama and will deeply miss you. Rest on in the Master’s care until we meet on that great getting up morning.
