Margaret L. Oliveiro, of 455 Douglas Avenue, Providence, died Wednesday, July 12th, at Berkshire Place Nursing Home.
Born in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence McCarter Sr. and Lettia (Ellis) McCarter. She was resident of the city of Providence since 1942.
She attended New York University, Yale University and Bryant College.
Margaret worked 12 years for the City of Providence Recreation Department where she organized girls basketball leagues. She also worked 14 for the Providence Housing Authority and 14 years for the State of RI Medical Center.
She was also very committed to community work as she worked with very groups including Urban league of Rhode Island, Progress for Providence, EastSide Neighborhood Council, PTA Boards at E.W. Flynn and Mary Fogarty elementary schools, Providence chapter of the National PTA, and Mount Hope Day Care Head Start.
Margaret is survived by daughters, Pamela A. Harry and Penelope Harry, both of Providence, and Victoria Correy of Johnston, sisters, Lillie Mae Green and Anne Ruth Huddleston, both of Birmingham, AL, and Lois Jacks of Browns Mill, NJ, 14 grandchildren and 19 great, grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Bertram H. Wallace Jr., Richard E. Wallace, Jacqueline Wallace, and Tracey Whiteside, and the brother of the late Horace McCarter and Lawrence McCarter Jr.
