Mary Alice Duncan, 71, of Providence, Rhode Island, Died on January 31, 2018 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
She was born on July 24, 1946, in Carrollton, Alabama to the late Fannie Mae (Young) Duncan and Lofton Duncan Sr. She was a graduate of Pickens County Training School, Carrollton, Alabama and Rhode Island College, Providence, Rhode Island.
Mary retired from the State of Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training in 2014 after dedicating 26 years of outstanding service as an employment counselor. Being able to help people and making a difference in someone's life was truly her "calling." She also devoted a significant amount of her time working and mentoring the youth of Providence at The Urban League of Rhode Island, and the John Hope Settlement House.
Mary was a companion to the late Frederick E. White. She is the mother of daughter, Kendra Duncan and Darsheen M. White of Providence, RI. She leaves three granddaughters, LaQuan N. Duncan, Kadijah I. Duncan and Rain R. Green.
Besides her children and grandchildren, she leaves four siblings,Minnie Duncan, Lorine Bibbs and Anne B. Alashe all of Providence, RIas well as Lofton Duncan Jr. of Eutaw, Alabama. She was predeceased by brothers Jesse J. Lawhorn and Sammy Young and her daughter Cassandra M. Duncan.
