Overseer Mary Ann “Anna” Jones was born on February 5, 1935 in Wilson, NC to her late parents, John Wesley Isom, Sr. and Elsie Mae Artis-Isom. She was the oldest of 7 children with 4 sisters, Ruby Johnson of Pawtucket, RI, Sandra Isom-White of Los Angeles, CA, Gail Sherrod of Cranston, RI and Norine Bryson of Roslindale, MA and 2 brothers, John Wesley Isom, Jr. “Brother” of Fort Worth, TX and the late James Harold Isom.
Anna was wed in marriage to the late Overseer Joseph Lee Jones on March 31, 1957 at New Jerusalem COGIC in Providence, RI. Anna worked for the United States Post Office organizing mail and later became a mail carrier driver before retiring.
Overseer Jones became a pioneer in ministry and was one of Rhode Island’s first Women Pastors. Her prominence in the faith led to the founding of Trinity Tabernacle in 1983. Located in the comfort of Pastor Jones’ Providence, RI home then, services included Sunday Worship services along with a popular Bible Study provided for young people. By the leading of the Spirit, Pastor Jones closed the doors of Trinity in 1990. For nearly a decade, she emceed the worship services of Holy Cross COGIC, and was often noted as a powerful and renowned praise leader.
Listening to the voice of the Lord yet again, Pastor Jones was called to reopen the doors of Trinity Tabernacle in 1997 in East Providence, RI with the assistance of her husband the late Overseer Joseph Jones. Along with the reestablishment of the church came the commencement of a new ministry under Trinity, that being, Tri-Christ Ministries, which was also known for its slogan, “A Church With a Vision.” Most recently in 2018, Pastor Jones was recognized for her service and dedication to Christ and was elected as Overseer of Morning Star Assemblies under Prelate Bishop Dwight Dove with Tabernacle Ministries under Bishop James Keith.
Anna enjoyed taking long drives, eating strawberry ice cream, going bowling, watching boxing, and improvising gospel songs. However, her most adored activity was praising the Lord! Anna’s love was immense, and her compassion was tremendous; she truly touched the hearts of many.
Overseer Mary Ann Jones departed her life on September 7, 2018 and was surrounded by family as she was called to the Lord. She leaves to mourn her 7 children – 4 daughters: Pamelia Jones-Bird (Robert) of Rumford, RI, Stacey Jones of Providence, RI, Kimberly Jones of Pawtucket, RI, and Shirley Hood of Pawtucket, RI; 3 sons: Alonzo Troy Jones (Maria) of Greenville, SC, Howard Jones of Providence, RI, and Mark Jones (Ana) of Providence, RI. She will be fondly remembered by her 24 grandchildren, 6 of whom she raised and affectionately referred to as “my guys.” In addition, she has 19 great grandchildren. She was also cherished by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends across the country. Her legacy of love will always be remembered.
