Vernett (Wakil) C. Brown, Jr. also known as Pokey & Chops, 44, of Providence died suddenly at Rhode Island hospital after receiving injuries in a car accident on Friday, December 14, 2018. Born in New York's Harlem Hospital on May 30, 1974, he was the son of the late Vernett C. Brown, Sr. & Hazel R. (Pinkney) Brown. Pokey grew up on the South Side of Providence. He was proud to be a part of a community that was the backbone of the entire city. Growing up, he began to sketch, his mediums were plain pencils and paper, his muse was Mother Nature. Vernett was fascinated by the changing leaves and the naturally beautiful scenery of Providence. He was known to spend hours outside, sketching. When he wasn't spending all of his energy drawing, he was spending quality time with his friends. Together, they embraced the natural beauty of Rhode Island.
He was raised by his loving Aunt the late Ernestine Levy of Providence. Aside from his parents & grandparents he is also predeceased by his younger brother Robert C. Brown Belloue.
Vernett was a loving father to two young men, Davon and Desmond Andrews, both of Providence. Vernett is remembered by his siblings Vernetta Brown and Tyrone Wallace, Sr. as well as his adopted sisters Doyce and Brucetta Campbell.
He is mourned by his many nieces and nephews; Danetta, Phylise, Bryon, Shakyla, Sharonda Nickea, Ricky, Gia, Jariah, Tyrone Jr. and Desmond as well as many Great-nieces & nephews. Vernett was a loyal friend to his loved ones & was cherished by his children, siblings, family and friends. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
