Alice Mae Williams, 78, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, died peacefully on Saturday May 11, 2019 at the home of her daughter in East Providence, Rhode Island. Born on November 20th, 1940 in Oak City North Carolina to Ernest Barfield and Beatrice Bryant-Ledet, Alice and her younger sister Geraldine would be relocated to Newport News, VA to be raised by her maternal aunt Alice Hicks. Years later, she would move back to Oak City to live with her paternal grandmother Lizzy Ann Barfield. There she joined St. Paul Baptist Church and attended West Martin High-School.
Alice would eventually make her way to Providence, Rhode Island where she met and wed Lawrence Lange Sr. Three children would come of that union. Years after the marriage dissolved, Alice would go on to marry Joseph Carlton Williams. One child came of that union.
Alice specialized in customer service and would eventually retire from Citizens Bank. Alice was a life-long believer in Christ and loved to hear the word. Perhaps one of her greatest achievements was becoming an ordained minister in 2000. While in Rhode Island, her spiritual journey included memberships at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Providence, New Hope Christian Center in Warren, and Open Arms Tabernacle in Providence. But it would be the Shekinah Family Worship Center in Providence that would be her forever church home. There under the leadership of Pastor’s Phillip and Sandra Miller, Alice would serve on several committees including the Wisdom Council of Mother Advisors, ministerial staff, and as the pastoral care chairman.
A prayer warrior and spiritual advisor, Alice was often called upon for prayer and spiritual guidance by friends and family alike. An infectious personality, she would occasionally spark up conversations with complete strangers while out and about and by the end of the encounter, the individual left with a prayer, well wishes, and two business cards. One with Alice’s information and the other with Pastor Miller’s information. Alice wanted to share the love of God with everyone she came in to contact with, and she wanted them to experience it at Shekinah.
Alice is survived by her four children Lawrence (Larry) Lange and his wife Deborah, Stephanie Young, Brenda Walker, and Alecia Williams, fifteen grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, her sister Rosa Willis, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her Sister Geraldine and her grandson Jasper.
