Carlton Benjamin Russell Jr. was born on December 16, 1949, in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the firstborn to Luella Allen and Carlton B. Russell Sr. Both his parents and one brother, Keith Douglas Russell, preceded him in death.  Carlton was known to some as “Chipper” and to others as “CB.”

Carlton attended Sumit Elementary School and Walter Bishop High School. In Bishop High School, he played on the State Champion Football Team. Then he went on to Central High School where he played Varsity football, basketball, and wrestling and ran track. He was also senior class president.

Carlton accepted Christ as his personal Savior under the ministry of Evangelist Henry McRae from High Point, North Carolina, during a revival at Beacon Avenue Church of God under the leadership of Elder Earl Bright Sr. He was baptized at 1st Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, IL by Pastor James Thomas.

Carlton had an extensive job career: he worked for the New England Telephone Company, The Department of Environmental Management, the Ceta Corporation, and the Department of Corrections, “ACI.”  He joined the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed on the USS John F. Thirty-two years ago, Carlton met and married the “apple of his eye,” Lawanda Rambo, or as he affectionately called her, “L J.”

Carlton loved to debate about everything with his favorite nephew, “Gimp.” He would even provide back-up for his arguments.
