David Queen, 83, was called home suddenly on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
David was born and raised in Cuthbert,Georgia where he attended Randolph High School. He was the son of the late Mr. Jack Queen and Ms. Epsie Gilbert. David moved to Providence, Rhode Island in 1960.
Prior to retiring, Queen worked at Durastone Corporation in Lincoln, Rhode Island for 27 years. He also worked at Bright Funeral Home for 12 years as an associate and driver. After retirement, he was an umpire and referee for Rhode Island Interscholastic League for all sports. He thoroughly enjoyed refereeing and umpiring games for over 40 years. Queen loved watching sports, and gathering with family and friends for cookouts and reunions. He always dressed to impress and was fashionable for all occasions.
David was the loving companion to Ms. Maurine “Rina” Addison, and the devoted father to his beloved children Salonia Threats, Derek Webster of Pawtucket, RI, Romona Queen Phillip (Stan) of Atlanta, GA, and Brandon Blue (Jamie) of Texas. David also was the loving grandfather to Karissa Threats- Ingram, Kameron Correia, Jovan Phillip, Dajuana Phillip, Derek Ashley, Dione Ashley, Malicha Blue, Ezra Blue, and Tziyon Blue, along with 5 great-grandchildren. Queen also leaves behind his sister Rutha Mae Cooks, a host of nieces, nephews, his lifelong friend Mr. Clarence R. Snead Sr., Godson Mr. Eric Snead, Goddaughter Ms. Martise “Tinsy” Alston, Florida Family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Harden Gilbert, Leonard Gilbert, Ernest Gilbert, and Homer Will Queen.
Queenie will be deeply missed by all.
