Doreen Elaine (Rand) Odekanmi was born May 4, 1956, in Hunterdon County, NJ to the late Theresa Marie (Rand) Bryant and to the late David Rand.
Doreen, “Cookie” known to many, attended elementary and high school in Camden County NJ. In 1976, she gave birth to her first daughter Tawanda. In 1979 Cookie moved to RI to be closer to her mother.
Doreen met Adebisi “Lee” Odekanmi in 1980. They fell in love and married that same year on October 1st. She welcomed her first son, Ayodele, in 1981 and her second daughter in 1983. Doreen and Lee were married for 21 years.
Doreen worked at Ramada Inn as a housekeeper until she developed health issues in 2002. Cookie’s love was unconditional to all she met. She had a kind and loving spirit. She was best know for her “juicy kisses” and bear tight hugs.
Doreen was a follower of Christ and knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Her hobbies included: playing cards; knitting & crocheting; backgammon; drawing; most importantly of all, she loved spending time with her loved ones.
Doreen leaves behind her stepfather: Leon Bryant: children: Tawanda Maceia (Manuel); Ayodele Odekanmi (Tiffany); Oyinlola Valentin (Nathan); stepdaughter Oluwadamilare Odekanmi; OluwaBukola Oladokun; Gbolahan Barkare of Texas. Her sister, Floreen Lewis. Her grandchildren: Khyren; Ayanny; Justin; David; Jayden; Jordan, and Devante. Her goddaughter: Kathleen Carlon. In addition a host of Nieces and great-nieces; nephews and great-nephews; family members and friends will miss her and her unconditional love greatly.
