Evelyn "Mama" "Evie" (Goode) Peoples, 84, of Providence Rhode Island peacefully drifted into eternal rest on October 1, 2019. Evelyn was born on July 14, 1935 in Bessemer City, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Betty (Greene) Goode and Samuel Goode. Evelyn left North Carlonia in her early teens and moved to Providence Rhode Island where she met her husband the late Clarence Edward Peoples.
Evelyn was a member of NLC United Holy Church were she serves as the mother of the church. She was also a member of the Elks and worked at the Medical Center for many years. She loved her siblings and being the youngest she was very spoiled by them all and loved every minute if it! She played softball and basketball in her youth and always found a way to make a dollar to provide for her family. Mama was a "Diva" who loved to dress and shop. She never left the house without her nails done and her jewelry. She was very classy and bossy with her soft southern voice, small stature and huge heart. Evelyn never went without and always made sure she had more than enough, she was very wise and always one step ahead of you. Everyone knew she loved to play the Lotto and Scratch Tickets and watch QVC and Dancing with the Stars. Mama loved to cook and host many family gatherings which included May Day Breakfast, Fourth of July and ANYTHING to get the family together. What attracted her purchase of her home with her husband on 53 Verndale Ave was because it had an extra lot to enjoy with her family and host her friends and loved ones. Evelyn enjoyed her life and lived it to the fullest! She was young at heart, you could always find her spending time with her grand children and nieces and nephews smiling and having a good time. Mama was known and constantly praised for her famous banana pudding. She was a woman with a big heart who loved her children as evidence by her commitment to helping anyone in need. Evelyn was a Christian Woman of incredible faith who had a savory Soprano voice which was soothing to your soul.
Evelyn was a loving caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She leaves to cherish her loving children, Grant (Diane) Peoples, Stephen (O'Kasey) Peoples, Troy Peoples, Lydia Peoples, Eleanor (Ronald) Peoples Rego and Edward Peoples. Nieces Rhonda Goode, Cynthia Goode and Sarah Goode James. Nephews Kenneth Goode, Donald Goode, Kevin Goode, and Curtis Goode. She leaves to cherish her 19 grand children, 25 great grandchildren. Evelyn is proceeded in death by her son Michael Goode Peoples. Daughters Stephanie Peoples KuKu and Tracey Goode Peoples. Siblings Mary Muskelly, Gladys Brooks, Sarah McDaniel, Elizabeth Goode, Samuel Goode and John Easter all of Bessemer City North Carolina.
