Johanna Lopez-Cady, 41, died suddenly on Saturday, November 24, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY on September 2, 1977, she was deeply loved by her parents.
Johanna was a bubbly and unique woman, she was known to fill the room with laughter and love. She leaves behind six beautiful children; four daughters, Angelina Lopez, Jolene Lopez, Jalissa Gerena and Gladys Lopez, all of Providence; and two sons, Emmanuel Lopez and Jacob Gerena, both of Providence. She was passionate about many things, her children, being first and foremost for much of her life. She taught her daughters to not only take care of themselves, but how to make themselves strong enough to overcome any obstacle. She taught her sons to be respectful, decent, grateful and most importantly, humble.
Johanna is survived by her loving husband, Steven Cady. They shared a passion for music, together they would dance and reflect on the choices that led them to each other.
She was a fulfilled and powerful woman, working in the construction field, she knew she had to work harder than the others on her team, because more often than not, she was the only woman at work. This marginalization fed her drive, she learned through this that she was an example - she knew she needed to share her gift of power with inner city girls, the ones who were at risk for falling behind because they were young women. Johanna fought to teach young girls that they too were powerful, even when it seemed that they were powerless and trapped. When Johanna started teaching the young women, she knew she found her passion. She was present for the rallies on Capitol Hill, she was present for the struggling ones at the clinics, she was there for the other young women at "People Ready." She was present because she knew it was the only way to win the good fight for Women's Rights.
Johanna was an activist, a mother, a sister-in-law and a wife. She knew the value of "Work-Hard-Play-Hard" and loved to share her experiences with anyone. She was a dear friend to many, and will be missed by all.
