Johnny Ashley Sr. Obituary

Johnny Franklin Ashley Sr., of 78 Devonshire Street, Providence, RI, was born in Shelby, NC, died peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was the beloved son of the late James and Lola Ashley (Foster).

He was educated in the RI School System, served in the Army and the Vietnam War. He was employed by the Providence Housing Authority, where he retired. Following his retirement, Johnny was a self-employed mechanic and handyman. 

 He leaves to cherish his memory his only son, Johnny (Boy) Ashley Jr., (Latoya Brice), and his former wife, JoAnn Ashley: his brothers, James and Robert Ashley, sister Annette Silva from Providence RI., and his grandchildren, Brandan, Kadeem, Zhane, A’mia, Sanai, Aarian, and his great granddaughter Kasaih.  He is preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald, Gary, Michael, Barron, Allen, and his sisters, Wanda and Tanya Ashley. 

He leaves behind a host of relatives and friends, his longtime friend, Renee Rezendes, who cared for him until his transition, and his companion dog Capone.
