Keith Grant Obituary

Keith "Moot" Allen Grant, 63, of 100 Randall Street, Providence, died on Saturday, March 9th, after a long struggle with COPD. Born in Providence, he was the son of Robert Grant Sr and the late Ruby (Hall) Grant. Aside from his mother, he is predeceased by three siblings, the late Brenda J. Grant, Ruby J. Grant and Dorothea M. Grant.

He leaves his son, Keith A. Brown of Providence, siblings, Renee Grant Kane of East Providence,  Michelle A. Grant of Pawtucket, Denise J. Grant of Providence, Larry W. Grant of Cranston, Antionette L. Grant and Steven J. Grant, both of Tampa, FL, Sheresa B. Grant of San Juan, PR and Robert L. Grant of  Charlotte, NC, and 3 grandchildren. Keith also leaves a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, his longtime companion Barbara Mitchell as well as extended family and friends.

Keith met his high school sweetheart Sue while attending Hope High School in Providence. He served in the U.S. Army and was later employed by Amtrak as a Track Layman in the 70’s. He was also employed by the City of Providence’s Water Department for many years. In his spare time Keith loved being with his family and closest friends. He enjoyed watching television especially Old Westerns, Science Fiction and Classic Films. He was particularly good at cooking for his son and those he loved, namely, his fried fish and chicken; A skill he learned well from his Mom.

His eyes would actually twinkle when he was in the company of his three grandchildren or at the mention of them.  Folks who knew him well knew him as “a natural comedian” known for making conventionally good jokes with his best-friend Ronnie, it would evolve into a non-stop comedy routine. His immediate family all share the same comedic genetics. He was an expert painter and floor sander with exceptional skills for repairing anything broken. Keith was a great dancer who enjoyed singing notes he couldn’t always reach and 70’s music.

He will also be remembered as a loyal son and sibling, superior father and grandfather.
