Leslie Byrd Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of Leslie C. Byrd of Springfield, MA. He died at the age of 65 on Saturday, September 24th, 2022. Leslie passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving children after a long battle with his health. He is survived by three children, Carl and Joyal Byrd of Pawtucket, RI and Felicia Byrd of Cranston, RI.

Born in Baltimore, MD, Leslie was the youngest son of the late Flossie Mae Johnson. He spent his childhood years in Springfield, MA being raised by the late Brantley and Lavinia Byrd of Springfield, MA. Besides his children, he leaves behind two former spouses Pamelia Byrd of Rumford, RI and Faye Drain of Springfield, MA and son Kellen Drain of Chicopee, MA. He was a brother to Joyce Lane of Salisbury, NC, Althea Johnson of Baltimore, MD, Elton Johnson of Jacksonville, FL and James Johnson of Craigsville, VA. Also brother to the late Alonzo Byrd of Springfield, MA and the late Delores Claiborne of Baltimore, MD. He was loved by a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

Leslie, or more commonly known as Byrd, spent his life traveling the world as a musician. He played his bass guitar for many bands, most notably Transparent Gold, Mixed Generation and Tough Act to Follow. Often showcasing his eclectic taste in music, he loved to play for churches as well. Byrd loved his time at Faith Temple No. 2, playing bass guitar for their Sunday services. When he wasn’t traveling or playing music, Byrd spent time as a licensed carpenter. At home, he loved watching wrestling and The Baltimore Ravens, listening to Earth, Wind and Fire and most of all, spending time talking with friends and family. His infectious smile and laughter will be missed by all who loved him.
