Samuel Sykes was born on March 28th 1936 in West Point, Mississippi, the son of Beulah Benyon, and Sam Sykes. Samuel attended Union Academy in Columbus, Mississippi.

He served two tours of duty in Vietnam while in the Army totaling 13 years, and also boxed while overseas. Upon his return to the states he was employed by the US postal service for a total of 30 years of governmental service.

Samuel gave his life to Christ and was a faithful member of the Providence Church of Christ on Elmwood Avenue in Providence until he departed this life.

Samuel loved to sing and was known to oftentimes serenade total strangers he chanced to meet with his favorite song, “One In A Million You”.  He also was an avid bowler, and would strike a boxing pose when asked to pose for a photograph. His pleasant personality and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
