Sonya Yvette Lawrence, 52, died peacefully on Sunday, February 16th, surrounded by her family. She was born May 26, 1967 in Providence where she lived most of her life. Sonya was the wife of Roosevelt Whitehurst. And she was the daughter of the late Pauline Lawrence and Harold Somerol/James Lawrence.
She volunteered for D.A.R.E. and many other organizations. Sonya loved cooking and dancing but most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was famous for all her cooking but most of all her delicious African spinach, collard greens and fried chicken.
She is survived by daughters, Shalondra of GA, Takela, Sherrell, Jannia and Patrice, all of Providence, sons, James, Jaquan, Jamal, Javon and Jason, all of Providence, sisters, Deborah, Gena, Charlene, and Princess, all of Providence, brothers, Terry of Providence and William of CA, and grandchildren, Avianah, Amari, Jannira, William, Stink, Amir, Tafari, Maxwell, Jean and Zhylen.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sonya, and her brother, Bruce Parker.
She will be deeply missed by all.
