Walter Person Obituary

Walter " Buddy" Lee Person Sr.,  son of the late Alice (Barr) Person and the late Willie Wilson, was born on November 3, 1947 in Eufaula, AL. He entered his eternal rest on Monday, May 6th, in Providence,  where he resided for most of his adult life. He received his education in the Glenville Public Schools in Pittsview, Alabama. As a young adult he moved to Putnam, CT and later to Providence where he resided until his demise.

Walter was the loving husband of Esther (Randall) Person whom he joined in holy matrimony on July 11, 1970 in Providence. To this union God added three children, the late Kevin Person whom he and his wife adopted prior to the birth of their other two children, Nakeisha Person of Atlanta, GA and Walter Lee Person, Jr. of Cranston; and son, Rodney Williams (Louise) of Fort Mitchell, AL. He also leaves the devoted companion of his son, Walter, Ciarra Jefferis of Cranston. He was the proud grandfather of five children, Jayvian and Jamier Person of Cranston, and Kooper Screws, Kandrea, and Monica Williams, all of Fort Mitchell, AL.

He was employed by Jacob’s Rubber Company in Danielson, CT for a brief time before he gained employment with General Dynamics Electric Boat where he worked as a grinder for thirty-nine years until his retirement in 2011.

Walter received Christ as his personal savior in 1968 and was an avid church member. After joining Mount Zion Church of God, Inc. he served in many capacities. He was a Deacon, a member of the Trustee Board, he taught Sunday School, and in most recent years, was a strong supporter to his wife in her pastoral role at Mount Zion Church of God.

Having been blessed with tremendous musical talent, he played the guitar skillfully. He was a sought after soloist throughout Rhode Island and the Northeast region. He was a member of the Sensational Gospel Singers and traveled extensively spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through music.

Besides his loving wife, devoted children, and grandchildren, he leaves to mourn his passing his siblings from his biological father, and those born out of the union of his mother to his step-father, Arthur Person:

Joanne Butts (Pairris) of Dothan, AL; Dorothy Marshall (Elijah) of Eufaula, AL; Elouise Wilson of Tampa, FL; Dorothy Mills of Columbus, OH; Bryant Wilson of Aliquippa, PA; Odis Faegins of Eufaula, AL; Pearl Glenn of Columbus, GA; and Lenora Person of Phoenix City, AL; and a sister-in-law, Mabel Person Danielson of CT.

He was preceded in death by his siblings June Person, Rose Henry, Mary Person, Billy Person, Johnnie B. Person, Betty Screws, Barbara Wilson, Sabrina Salter, Willie Roy Wilson, and Ricky Feagins.
