Welcome to the memorial page for

Larry D. Smith

December 22, 1951 ~ April 27, 2016 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Larry D. Smith departed this life on Wednesday April 27, 2016. Larry also known as smooth was born on December 22nd or 21st, if you let him tell the story, in 1951, in Statesboro, Georgia. He was the son of the late Willie Mae Gertrude Smith. Larry joined the Armed Forces in 1971 and served for over 20 years. He was a proud member of The American Legion Post 69 where he held the position of Sergeant at Arms for over 10 years. Larry worked at Spidel, drove tractor-trailers and was a construction worker. When he finally decided to retire, he started one of his many ventures. Everyone remembers Smooth’s Towing. After that he decided rubbish was his true calling. LDS Junk and Rubbish Removal was his last venture.

To know him was to love him; he always made you feel comfortable in his presence. And if he gave you a nickname, you knew he really liked you. He always had his version of the newest song out. He stayed up on the newest technology as long as someone showed him how it worked, a.k.a. Earnest. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling and meeting new people.

Larry leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife Norma I. Smith, his sisters, Verda Kae, Diane Johnson, Jimmy Lou Smith, all of Statesboro, GA, Katherine Pollar of Oceanside, CA, Laureen Littles of Johnson City, TN and his brother James Smith of Statesboro, GA. And the entire Page and Potter family of Providence.

He also leaves his children, Daynell (Smith) Martin of Hartford, CT, Terese Baker and Patricia Smith, both of Pawtucket, Alisha Smith of Charlotte, NC, his son, Gabriel Hicks of Providence, four step-children, all of Providence, RI. Larry had 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grands, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was the father of the late Kyle Duarte and brother of the late Joyce Bennett and the late Essie Lou Thomas.
