Welcome to the memorial page for

Joe Billy Lovejoy

June 28, 1956 ~ May 1, 2016 (age 59) 59 Years Old

The sun rose on the life of Joe Billy Lovejoy (“Joseph”) on June 28, 1956 in Wetumpka Alabama. Joe was peacefully called home on Sunday May 1, 2016 to spend eternity with his Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Pearl Johnson and Nathaniel Murrell Sr., and brother, Nathaniel "Mr. Poop" Murrell. He was the third child of ten children in this union.

Joe grew up in Dorchester Massachusetts where he attended Boston Public Schools before enlisting in the United States Army in which he was honorably discharged.

Joe, affectionately known to most as “Hamma”, “Uncle Joe” or "Joseph" was a very charismatic person, he loved to tell jokes, and always had a smile on his face. He was a proud father and grandfather, he loved and adored his entire family to the max and he made sure that it was known to each and every one - every time he spoke with them. He was exceptionally close to his mother, a mama’s boy at heart. He embraced all of his friends and extended family with the same compassionate big heart. He dedicated his life to the lord and was a devout Christian – He attended church and also looked forward to worshiping with Bobby Jones Gospel on TV each Sunday. Joe was also a avid fan of sports, he was loyal to all the Boston teams, especially the New England Patriots. His heart was huge and he would give his absolute last to someone in need whether he knew them or not, he treated everybody like family.

Joe had many talents…. He was very artistic, poetic, a musician and a chef.  He could draw any character free hand and loved to share them as gifts to his family and friends on special occasions, he had a way with words and loved to write, he played the drums for local bands and would sing in harmony with his brothers and sisters. He loved to cook! He could make something out of nothing and it would leave you wanting for more. Joe worked as a chef, in construction and in customer service, to name a few of his occupations during his time with us.

He leaves to cherish in his memory his two daughters he referred to as his princesses’ - JoLinda “JoJo” Underwood of Richmond Virginia, and Venus Lovejoy of Baltimore Maryland, son in law Floyd Underwood, and five grandchildren – Jeremiah, Gregory, Nadia, Nijahe and Saquwan - His five sisters,  Barbara Murrell of Alabama, Beverly (Willie) Curry, Esther Simmons, Mary Jean Murrell, Donna (Gary) Murrell and two Brothers Robert Lovejoy and Hardman Murrell and his step father Floyd Johnson – all of Massachusetts, his favorite Aunt Juanita (Roosevelt) Moses “Aunt Judy” of Houston Texas and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

“Joseph”, “Joe Billy”, “Hamma”, “Uncle Joe”, "Papa Joe", "Grandpa", “Daddy”….  We will miss you! Take your rest, and know that we all love you, but God loved you best.
